Just finished Fragile, one of Fangoria's Frightfest movies, which came out on DVD on 8/6/2010. One thing I noticed right away was that there was a very sad feel throughout the movie. The music and the lighting and the actors all felt very heavy. I did like the set, especially the drive to the hospital where you see the vintage Mercy Falls sign and the looming castle of a hospital. The movie stars Calista Flockhart as Amy Nicholls, the new night nurse at Mercy Falls hospital, who is carrying around some of her own baggage. She starts to notice that things are weird at this hospital and becomes worried about some unexplained accidents that have been occurring. As she listens to some stories from a child in the hospital, Maggie, Nicholls begins to wonder if there isn't some truth to the child's stories.
Maggie talks of Charlotte, who she feels is responsible for all the trouble and who she is scared of. Further research finds a little girl with brittle bone disease who appears to be hurting the children, although a twist proves this theory false.I thought the opening scene was pretty interesting. It gave the impression that things were probably not right in this hospital but it was also heartbreaking. The acting was pretty decent in most cases, although sometimes I did find myself doubting Nicholls' sanity. Not sure if it was intentional because I did find myself expecting a different twist(I never trust a movie and am always trying to guess at possible twists before they surprise me!) but I was lead astray. The twist in this one totally caught me off guard, I liked it! But I didn't like it when we finally got to see the ghost. All I have to say is eww. I'll let you guys see that for yourselves!
